One year ago, the KLAT DJ Takeover set out to create meaningful opportunities for emerging DJs across Wales. Through mentorship, creative development, industry insight and live performance experience, the programme sought to give new talent the confidence and support to grow.
Today, that vision continues.
Following a successful first year, the KLAT DJ Takeover returns for Year Two, once again opening its doors to aspiring DJs across Wales who are ready to develop their craft, expand their networks, and take the next step in their musical journey.
Whether you’re mixing in your bedroom, refining your first sets, or looking to break into the wider music industry, the programme offers an environment where talent can be nurtured through practical learning, mentorship and real-world experience.
But perhaps the strongest display of the programme’s impact is not the return for year 2, but the people who have grown with it.
One of last year’s participants, DJ Kal, returns for the second edition in a very different role.
After joining the inaugural cohort as an emerging DJ eager to sharpen his skills, DJ Kal now steps into the programme as a mentor, supporting the next generation of artists following the same path he once walked.
His journey reflects exactly what the KLAT DJ Takeover was created to achieve, building a sustainable creative community where knowledge is shared and emerging artists become industry leaders in their own right.
Last year’s programme helped participants such as DJ Wilson Noir, DJ YXNG ALEX, DJ Sophie Lord, Ogun, DJ Kal and DJ Samandollar develop not only technically, but creatively and professionally. Through workshops, one-to-one mentoring, and live performance opportunities, the cohort gained confidence behind the decks while learning more about the realities of building a career in music.
Now, DJ Kal returns ready to pass those lessons forward.
The KLAT DJ Takeover remains interested in creating accessible pathways for emerging DJs across Wales, helping new talent gain the knowledge, industry connections and practical experience needed to progress.
Participants will once again benefit from mentorship, creative development sessions, industry guidance and opportunities to perform, all designed to strengthen both their technical ability and artistic identity.
As applications open for Year Two, the programme, launched by KLAT Magazine and funded by the Arts Council of Wales looks ahead with the same purpose that shaped its first edition, to create opportunities for talented DJs who may not yet have access to the resources, networks or industry knowledge needed to move forward.
Applications for the second year of the KLAT DJ Takeover are now open, inviting the next wave of Welsh DJs to step behind the decks and become part of a growing creative community shaping the future of music in Wales.
