The Pop Culture Diaries: What the Golden Globes Really Told Us About Fashion This Year

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has long presented its annual awards to honor excellence in film and television. This year’s 83rd Golden Globes Awards brought together the best of the industry in one room to celebrate the achievements of the past year.

As the industry’s biggest and brightest came together, we were also able to witness the tone of fashion layered across the red carpet. As the best of cinema is celebrated, fashion’s finest steps forward, offering moments that hint at what the fashion world may have in store this year.

Black, White and the Power of Contrast

One of the most noticeable themes was the return of black and white, particularly through sharp colour-blocking. The simplicity allowed structure and detail to take centre stage.

  • Audrey Nuna stepped out in Thom Browne’s Autumn/Winter 2024 collection
  • Selena Gomez appeared in a Chanel dress finished with a white feather trim
  • Lisa Ann Walter appeared in an elegant, timeless Greta gown featuring a white overlay at the neck

Sheer Dressing Continues Its Reign

Another clear trend was the continued rise of the naked dress and sheer detailing on the carpet.

  • Jennifer Lawrence wore a sheer Givenchy dress by Sarah Burton
  • Jennifer Lopez appeared in a vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer styled by Stéphane Rolland
  • Ginnifer Goodwin wore a floor-length gown with hints of sheer by Giorgio Armani Privé
  • Minnie Driver stepped out in a Sabina Bilenko dress with sheer panel

Saturated Colour Takes the Spotlight

The red carpet also delivered deeply saturated colours, adding warmth and richness to the evening.

  • Chase Sui Wonders in a deep green custom Balenciaga gown
  • Wunmi Mosaku in a beautiful yellow dress designed by Matthew Reisman
  • Emma Stone in a yellow two-piece Louis Vuitton look
  • Tessa Thompson stunned in Balenciaga
  • Olandria Carthen in a rich emerald green Christian Siriano dress
  • Laufey in an orange Balenciaga gown
  • Leighton Meester in a yellow-banded, shimmering floor-length Miu Miu gown
  • Chris Perfetti in a royal blue Christian Cowan suit, finished with a rose-style brooch

Statement Jewellery and High-Impact Sparkle

As the event brought together some of the brightest stars in the world, they also delivered glitz, sparkle and statement jewellery, another trend clearly evident on the red carpet.

  • Elle Fanning in a dazzling Gucci dress paired with Cartier jewelry
  • Kate Hudson in a crystal-and-silk fringed custom Giorgio Armani Privé design with Garret diamonds
  • Emily Blunt in a white custom Louis Vuitton look with Tiffany & Co. jewelry
  • Ariana Grande in a vintage Vivienne Westwood bubble gown accessorized with sparkling jewels
  • Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a blue Dior gown paired with a Bulgari blue sapphire necklace, rings and earrings
  • Amelia Gray in a full-length custom Swarovski gown
  • Hailee Steinfeld in pink sparkling embellishments, accessorized with Repossi diamonds
  • Teyana Taylor in a black custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture look, complete with a crystal thong, bow and Tiffany jewels

Fashion-Forward Newcomers to Watch This Award Season

Young Hollywood is bustling with new talent, and many are already taking Centre stage bringing their own unique style and telling their stories through fashion. It is fascinating to watch, and here are a few faces to look out for this award season.

  • Chase Infiniti, one of the newer actresses to watch, broke out with her role in One Battle After Another. She stunned at the Golden Globes in a silver corset gown by Louis Vuitton paired with De Beers London jewels. Recently announced as a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador, she has the potential to become one of the season’s trend-setting fashionistas.
  • Odessa A’Zion, from the award-winning film Marty Supreme, is already a fashion favorite known for her unique sense of style. She brings intrigue, edge and a touch of mystery to the red carpet. For the Golden Globes, she wore black wide-leg trousers paired with a vintage Dolce & Gabbana feather bolero jacket and black satin gloves.
  • Owen Cooper, the breakout star of Netflix’s limited series Adolescence, made history as the youngest nominee for Best Supporting Actor in Television. He is also one to watch fashion-wise, stepping out in a sharp Bottega Veneta look for the event.
  • Miles Caton, who broke out in the award-winning film Sinners, is another young Hollywood face bringing an interesting personal style to the red carpet. He wore a custom dark brown pinstripe Amiri suit.
  • Lisa (Lalisa Manobal) of BLACKPINK wore a sheer black gown from Jacquemus Spring/Summer 2026, and later changed into a fully embellished silver Thom Browne gown while presenting.

This award season, strong trends are already emerging. This time of year, is when teams quietly test and launch the season’s visual language.

The tone set so far feels more personality-driven, where the ultimate luxury looks effortless. There is a more subtle and relaxed feel to fashion this year, with genuine storytelling shining through. These themes are likely to continue throughout the season, building anticipation for what lies ahead in fashion.
