A quiet environment can craft hands meant for design, design that can “create pieces of art everybody can enjoy.” Elliott Igbe, hailing from Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, and currently based in Houston, Texas, is the “chaser” paving the way for those like-minded. Elliot, is the founder of clothing brand “CHA33ERS”, a clothing brand created with the intention to bring people closer to fashion, and feel what Elliot feels daily.
Fashion design was always in anticipation of Elliot’s presence and he holds this accountable for his rise in the fashion industry stating “For as long as I can remember, I have been buying clothes from different designers, from high-end to lower-end to handmade designers. I felt the sense that most of these designers are trying to curate, I thought about it like this, I have these ideas, all of this God blessed me with, why not share it with the world in a way people can resonate with it?”
“Cha33ers” is a name that has the power to stop you in your tracks, with a backstory that has the power to gently nudge you into self-acceptance. “The name CHA33ERS comes from a mix of my nickname and a special number. As a kid, my friends called me “CHAZZER” because I could run fast. When I decided to start a brand, I thought about something related to me. I had to change the “ZZ” into “33” facing each other because I was born on 6/6 which is June 6th. I needed to make the name artistic and extraordinary, so I changed the ZZ into 33 facing each other which is 3 + 3 = 6, my angel number as well as my date of birth.”
Elliot’s reason for choosing fashion design can be considered admirable by fashion lovers, and those looking for that spark to show up as their authentic selves in this life. Fashion and clothing have been a way of life for Elliot stating “All of my life I have had eyes for fashion and clothing, even as early as a kid. I have always figured out ways to style myself and I always knew fashion and clothing should be treated as ART, not just pieces we put on our bodies. Growing up in the place where I grew up, I knew I could do more in the fashion space by sharing some of the ideas and visions God put in me with the world to show the world and people that fashion is ART, not just clothing or pieces we wear to cover our body. Getting into fashion helps me share my inner mind with the outer world.”
What is art, design, and creation if not for self-expression, relatability, and originality? Elliot describes his favourite part of being a fashion designer as “being able to share my inner mind and express myself in a way I feel comfortable, and also showing the world that we could do more with clothing and fashion than what we already do, expressing myself, and sharing my mindset through clothes.”
With inspirations stemming from his environment, introverted personality, and close-knit friendships, the pieces Elliot curates are destined to find their places in the closets of thousands.
Elliot’s core principles in fashion, design, and style are clear, as he believes fashion is “expressing your emotions and sharing your mindset through pieces, we all see ART differently and to me “FASHION IS ART.” The same way people love paintings and express themselves through drawings and such, I think fashion is another arm of ART.” Elliot Igbe’s future is bright, with gifts in culinary arts, painting, design, and a BSC in Business Administration, the future is as strong as Elliot sews it.
“The vision is showing people that fashion is not really about clothes. I am trying to build a “CULT” like family that would consist of like minds and super beings, and soon the world will catch up.” – Elliot Igbe.
