‘This Is A Lust Song’ Adjua Shares The Truth Behind New Single, ‘Can’t Lose’

There’s a certain kind of feeling you don’t forget, that first spark, when everything is charged, a little unpredictable, and just intense enough to keep you leaning in. On her latest release “Can’t Lose,” Welsh indie artist Adjua captures that exact moment with a kind of honesty that feels both effortless and deeply intentional.

Marking the first glimpse into her upcoming EP, set for release this July, “Can’t Lose” is an introduction to where Adjua is headed next. And if this track is anything to go by, it’s a direction rooted in confidence, instinct, and a refusal to be boxed in.

From the first few seconds, the track settles into a bass-heavy groove that feels warm and grounding, before opening up into something brighter and more expansive. There’s a subtle push and pull happening throughout, indie textures brushing up against dancehall rhythms, Afro-influenced percussion weaving through the mix, all anchored by a soulful vocal performance that never tries too hard, yet says everything it needs to.

Adjua’s voice sits right at the centre of it all, rich, controlled, and layered with R&B harmonies that add depth without ever overwhelming the track. Then, just when you think you’ve settled into its rhythm, flashes of twangy, almost Western-style guitar cut through, giving the song an unexpected edge.

Lyrically, the track leans into the rush of new connection, that moment where attraction turns into something harder to ignore. As Adjua puts it, “This is a lust song… I’m trying to encapsulate the feeling of excitement when you know you’re about to fall in love, and the attraction is super strong.” There’s something refreshing about how plainly she puts it, no overcomplication, no unnecessary metaphor. Just feeling, exactly as it comes.

What makes the story behind the track even more compelling is how naturally it came together. Written on bass in a single sitting, “Can’t Lose” feels instinctive in the best way, like it wasn’t forced into existence, but rather arrived fully formed, waiting to be captured.

It also speaks to Adjua’s role not just as a vocalist, but as a full creative behind her music. Co-producing the track alongside her band, she continues to shape her sound from the ground up, building something that feels entirely her own. And while this single stands strong on its own, it also hints at something bigger. With a run of releases leading into her EP this summer, Adjua is clearly entering a new phase, one that builds on the momentum she’s been steadily gathering over the past few years.

From her roots in Splott to stages like SXSW, Glastonbury, and beyond, her journey has been one of quiet but undeniable growth. Support from BBC Horizons, Youth Music, and PRS, alongside the Triskel Award, has only reinforced that Adjua is truly one to watch.

With upcoming appearances at All Roads Festival, The Great Escape, and a headline show later this year, 2026 is already shaping up to be a defining moment. But for now, “Can’t Lose” does exactly what a lead single should, it pulls you in, holds your attention, and leaves you wanting more. And if this is just the beginning, the rest of the EP is going to be worth sticking around for.
