SJ Hill’s Soulful New Single ‘Tonight’ Lands

“It’s getting kinda late, and I’ve been trying to keep the faith, but the whisky has got me doubting wrong from right. Oh Lord, hear my prayer/and I am falling from temptation/oh Lord can you help me tonight.”

Those opening lines set the tone for Tonight — the brand new single from Cardiff’s rising vocalist SJ Hill. Released on August 15th, 2025, the track has already been hailed as “Single of the Year” by early listeners, and it’s not hard to see why.

Combining soul, rhythm and blues, and country, Tonight is as raw as it is timeless. Written by acclaimed songwriter Tommy John from The Rhonda, produced by the masterful Daniel Edwards, and delivered through SJ Hill’s unmistakable vocals, the record is a lesson in how music can feel both intimate and cinematic at once.

“This is more than just a song — it’s a moment,” says producer Daniel Edwards. “From the very first demo, we knew Tonight had something timeless about it. SJ’s vocals, paired with Tommy John’s lyrics, created pure magic in the studio.”

And it’s those vocals that carry the weight of the track. With a rich tone, silky high notes, and a range that draws comparisons to both classic soul legends and today’s icons, Hill takes listeners on a journey that’s drenched in emotion. The soulful guitar riffs and layered production only add to the intensity, building to a powerful performance that lingers long after the final note.

Early reviews from DJs and critics have praised not just the production quality, but also the emotional resonance and cross-genre appeal of Tonight. It’s the kind of song that doesn’t just sit in one playlist, it moves across generations, finding a home wherever music lovers want something real.

For SJ Hill, this single is a defining moment. With Cardiff as his base but a sound that stretches far beyond, Tonight signals an artist ready to claim his place on the bigger stage.

Tonight is available now on all major streaming platforms.
