Calling all fashion lovers! Did you stay up late refreshing your feeds just like me, eagerly awaiting the Met Gala’s jaw-dropping looks? The internet started going crazy at about 6PM EST as A-listers celebrated MET Monday, which is usually the biggest night in Fashion, or as some call it, The Super Bowl of the fashion industry.
The theme for the The official Costume Institute exhibition on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” but the dress code and general theme of the night was the “Garden of Time.” So we expected to see nods to archival pieces, florals, and elements of nature.
It was indeed a night of stunning pieces from the archives of designers like Alexander McQueen, Giambattista Valli and Maison Margiella. Florals, unsurprisingly, proved to be the breakout look of the night. Celebrities adorned themselves in high-fashion bouquets in a variety of ways. There was Nicki Minaj in a Marni dress covered in hand-painted metal flowers, and Gigi Hadid in a Thom Browne three-dimensional floral ballgown. The year’s co-chairs arrived on time and in style— Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Anna Wintour — stunned on the red carpet, while Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, who served as honorary chairs, were also in attendance.
Like every red carpet, there was the good, the bad and the extremely weird (We see you Doja Cat!) KLAT’s Editors came together to come up with our best, worst and weirdest looks of the night. Here are the outfits that stood out to us, and embraced the theme gracefully.
The Met Gala 2024 bloomed with the “Garden of Time” theme, a display of elegance and ethereal beauty. Our KLAT editors were captivated by different looks from the “Sleeping Beauties” concept. However, the best dressed look of the night by popular opinion was Nicki Minaj and Elle Fanning, as they fully embraced the theme. While breakout stars and first-time attendees such as Tyla, Ayo Edebiri and Mona Patel looked like literal goddesses. Lewis Hamilton, Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter, Lana Del Rey and Mindy Kaling also embraced the theme and in turn, looked exceptional. Once again, The Met Gala was a stage where fashion became art, and it left us eager and excited for the Next Met Monday. (Can’t come soon enough!).
