Casandra Unveils “Solution” Ahead of New EP “Isla Tranquilita”

Who is Casandra?

Casandra is a Miami-born, Los Angeles-based artist, an experimental pop artist, songwriter, and producer who has been steadily releasing a handful of singles in recent times such as “Explicit,” “Permanent,” and “Mistake.” The latest single to join that run is “Solution,” which leads into her forthcoming EP, “ISLA TRANQUILITA,” set to be released on May 15th.

She has a unique way of expressing herself, moving between English and Spanish with ease, and her work often reflects her Cuban heritage. It is not just in the language, but in the feeling and references that come through in the music.

Where did “Solution” come from?

“My birth was an accident, and the tension that came from that was something I always felt growing up,” she shares. “That theme has followed me throughout my life, extending itself and sometimes showing up cruelly in my adult life. With ‘Solution,’ I embrace my defiant existence and celebrate creating a home within myself, a place where I belong, where I’m wanted, and where I’m allowed to be everything that I am without restraint. ‘Solution’ dances in the breeze, free and truly alive.”

There is something very direct about that. It is not over-explained, but it carries weight. The idea of building a home within yourself, rather than searching for it elsewhere, sits at the centre of the track.

What does “Solution” feel like?

There is a pop electric guitar rhythm that runs through the song, steady and present, sitting alongside soft keys and drums that don’t try to overpower anything. Everything moves at a pace that feels intentional. Nothing is rushed. Her lyrics flow easily over it, almost like they are settling into the sound rather than competing with it.

It feels like a moment of stillness. Like coming home after a long day, when everything finally slows down. You have a glass of wine in your hand, dinner set out in front of you, the lights dimmed just enough. There is no urgency, no pressure to be anywhere else. The song holds that kind of space. It is calm, but not empty. There is emotion there, just softened, more controlled.

Even as the instrumentation builds slightly, it never loses that ease. It stays grounded. Her voice sits comfortably within it, not trying to push too hard, just existing in the moment the track creates. It is the kind of song that doesn’t demand attention, but once you are in it, it keeps you there.

How did the EP come about?

The title “ISLA TRANQUILITA” translates from Spanish as “Little Island of Peace,” and that idea carries deeply personal meaning for her. The inspiration for the project comes from her late grandaunt, Teresa, who was a Cuban émigré (who left Cuba following the 1959 revolution, part of a larger wave of people who settled in places like Miami, Florida).

Casandra recalls that whenever she felt overwhelmed, her aunt would gently say, “Tranquilita,” encouraging her to pause, breathe, and calm down. That small phrase stayed with her. It became a source of comfort, something steady in moments that didn’t feel that way.

This project represents many layers for her. It touches on her personal struggles with belonging, her relationship with her own beginnings, her health, and her connection to her heritage. What started as a creative process slowly became something else a form of healing she did not fully expect.

She found herself in a space that felt safe and supportive, where the music could unfold naturally without pressure. In many ways, “ISLA TRANQUILITA” stands as both a tribute and a quiet offering a space of reflection, of softness, and of finding peace within something that once felt unsettled.
