Monro is stepping into the spotlight, and he’s not holding back. The Grammy-nominated producer, writer, and artist just dropped his brand-new single “2 of Us” on August 28th, and it’s the kind of track that hits you right in the chest, delicate, raw, and painfully relatable.
If you’ve ever been caught in that messy space between love and heartbreak where two people know things are breaking but still hold on — “2 of Us” is your soundtrack. “It’s two people standing at the precipice of a romantic journey hoping they can make it through,” Monro explains. “It’s pain and hope in one song…a place I’ve been myself.”
And you feel that honesty in every beat. Layered with dusky undertones, ambient synth swells, and slightly off-kilter drums, the song doesn’t just sound like a late-night conversation, it feels like one, almost like the musical equivalent of that 2 a.m. voice note you almost didn’t send: raw and dripping with emotion.
But “2 of Us” is more than a heartbreak song. It signals the start of an exciting new chapter for Monro, one where he’s finally telling his own story. For years, he’s been the genius behind the curtain, working with heavyweights like Jhené Aiko, Rico Nasty, V of BTS, NewJeans, Adekunle Gold, Masego, and Nines.
His work has even landed Grammy and Juno nominations, plus platinum-selling credits. But now, Monro is stepping out from behind the boards, turning the mic on himself.
Raised just outside London, Monro grew up soaking in a mix of sounds, Grime, UK garage, 2000s pop, classical film scores, American hip-hop, R&B, rock, and you can hear all those influences swirling in his music today. His journey hasn’t been straightforward, though. In his teens, discouraged by a lack of creative role models nearby, he briefly pivoted to filmmaking, even capturing early footage of now-icons like Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky for a YouTube channel he started with friends. Eventually, he circled back to music with fresh focus, teaching himself production, engineering, and slowly carving out his own lane.
Now, with over 260,000 streams under his belt and support from Apple Music playlists like New In Electronic, New Music Daily, and Chilling Out, plus BBC Introducing, Monro is ready to show the world what he sounds like when he’s telling his own story. His lyrics pull directly from life, heartbreaks that forced growth, love that changed him, and the awkward, beautiful messiness of human connection.
