KLAT DJ Takeover: Empowering Rising DJs in Wales

Music in Wales is evolving, and at the heart of that change are young creatives ready to tell their stories through sound. That’s why KLAT Magazine is launching the KLAT DJ Takeover, a new mentorship and creative development programme funded by the Art Council of Wales designed to support emerging DJs who are full of energy, ideas, and passion, but may not have had the platform to shine yet.

Running from October 2025 to January 2026, the KLAT DJ Takeover will bring together six up-and-coming DJs from across Wales for three months of learning, collaboration, and performance. The programme will give participants access to professional mentorship, creative workshops, and real industry exposure all while breaking down barriers that often hold young people back from pursuing music.

Who Can Apply

This opportunity is open to young people aged 16–30 living anywhere in Wales.
We’re looking for DJs who are passionate about music, hungry to grow, and excited to connect with others, whether you’ve been mixing for years or just started experimenting in your bedroom.

KLAT DJ Takeover is especially focused on supporting individuals from underrepresented communities including those from Black and Asian backgrounds, LGBTQ+ youth, disabled and neurodivergent individuals, and people from low-income or rural areas.

But above all, we’re looking for people who love music, who are curious, and who want to learn. You don’t need to be the most experienced DJ, you just need to bring your energy and your passion.

What You’ll Get

Being part of the KLAT DJ Takeover means stepping into a creative, supportive environment that gives you the tools, knowledge, and confidence to move your music career forward.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Professional Mentorship: Work closely with experienced DJs who know the industry inside out. Learn from their journeys, mistakes, and successes.
  • Studio & Equipment Access: Get hands-on time with professional gear and learn how to use it effectively.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with established DJs, producers, and music professionals who can help you shape your next steps.
  • Press & Media Exposure: Get featured across KLAT Magazine’s platforms and reach new audiences.
  • Content Creation Support: Capture your journey through professional photo and video content to help build your portfolio.
  • Live Showcase Performance: Perform your set live at a public event in Cardiff, with your mix broadcast and shared across KLAT’s digital platforms.

And travel within Wales is fully covered. So if you’re based in Swansea, Wrexham, or a tiny town in between, we’ll make sure you can take part.

What to Include in Your Video

This isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being you. We want to get a sense of your personality, your music, and your story.

In your video, please tell us:

  • Who you are (your name, DJ name, and where you’re from)
  • Your musical style (genres, inspirations, or artists who influence you)
  • Why you want to be part of the KLAT DJ Takeover
  • What you hope to learn or achieve through the programme
  • (Optional) A short clip of you DJ’ing or a recent highlight — just to show us what you do

Keep it real, keep it honest — we’re not judging your production quality, just your passion.

Why This Project Matters

Across Wales, there’s a new generation of DJs coming up, people full of creativity and drive, but who often lack access to resources, equipment, and industry connections. Too often, talent goes unnoticed because of where someone lives, their background, or the opportunities available to them. KLAT DJ Takeover is about changing that.

We want to create space for young people to experiment, collaborate, grow, build confidence and visibility while seeing themselves represented in the Welsh music scene.

Meet the Mentors

The programme is powered by some of the best in the game, mentors and creatives who know how to guide, inspire, and challenge participants to reach new heights.

  • DJ Jaffa – A true Hip-Hop pioneer and youth mentor, known for his decades of experience in Welsh music.
  • DJ Killer Tom – Tour DJ for Goldie Lookin Chain, winner of the Relentless DJ Competition, and opening act for Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s OTR II World Tour.
  • Ricardo Banks – DJ and nightlife consultant (Boho, Peppermint Cardiff), bringing years of industry knowledge and club expertise.
  • Deejay Timi – Afrobeats workshop lead, fusing West African rhythms with contemporary beats.
  • Treubeatz – R&B workshop facilitator, specialising in smooth transitions and creative vocal layering.

Together, this team brings authenticity, experience, and passion — ensuring every mentee gets top-quality support and real-world insight.

By the end of the programme, participants will have:

  • Performed live on stage
  • Been featured across KLAT’s platforms
  • Gained new skills and collaborators for life

We believe that creativity thrives when people feel seen, supported, and inspired. KLAT DJ Takeover is here to make sure that happens.

So If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing people move to your mix, of feeling that rush when your track drops and the crowd goes wild — this is your moment. Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for perfect.

Apply now and take a chance.
