“I came up with the concept of ‘FUN’ when things were not fun at all,” Ella Rosa shares, as she releases her latest single, “FUN,” through Palm Tree Records, and it’s—totally Gen Z-coded. This track is a wild mix of sounds that fuses UK garage, drum and bass, R&B, and bedroom-pop into something fresh and exciting.

Ella shared her thoughts on the song’s inspiration: “I came up with the concept of ‘FUN’ when things were not fun at all. I had just moved to a daunting new city and felt pressure to fit in with the ‘cool kids.’ I fell into a weird little crowd and discovered a mischievous side to myself I actually grew to love.”

The lyrics really tell the story of isolation and self-discovery in the most beautiful way, with lines like, “They don’t know why, she spends most nights/ biding her time, waiting for the high/ nothing on her own/she can’t be alone, and it shows/back from here and done, oh isn’t it fun.”

Ella’s foray into music started when she left the peaceful English countryside for the bustling streets of New York City at just 11 years old. It was tough—she felt lost and homesick—but she found comfort in the sounds of home, vibing to UK garage and drum and bass and dreaming of being a pop star like the Spice Girls. In college, she juggled her opera studies with late-night adventures at underground parties, lending her voice to EDM tracks.

“I wanted that feeling of eerie detachment to come through in the music, which is why the track almost sounds spooky,” she explains. It’s that mix of deep feelings and fun that gives her music its unique edge.

After refining her sound in the UK, Ella moved back to the U.S. and set up shop in Los Angeles. She’s been on a roll ever since, racking up over 1 million streams on her previous hit, “OFF+ON,” featuring veggi. She’s also been collaborating with some big names in music, including Anwar Sawyer (who’s worked with Rihanna), Jeff Shum (known for Demi Lovato), and CAMBO (who has worked with Doja Cat).
